Kenmore electrical dryer not working - tried everything!?
To begin, when you pressed the start button, it made a loud HUMM noise. We tried again and it made that noise and it stopped. First when we took it apart there was lint all in the motor. We removed it and it worked fine. It stopped working in the middle of the load. Then the button began doing the same thing and stopped working. We made sure the belt was on correctly and that the thermal fuse worked. They did. We went to a Sears parts store and bought a replacement motor. Still, nothing. Is the switch broken? The electrical connections to the timer work. What is going on with this dryer?
No power gets to the start button relay. It worked when we tested it with a meter.
The dryer door switch is fine. But the light will not come on.
Did you try by-passing the start button? Meters are great at showing continuity, and that can be a problem. Just because a switch ( start button ) passes meter current , usually 1.5 to 3 volts d.c., it doesn't necessarily mean that the device will carry enough of a current load to fire up the relay coil. Check the supply voltage and be sure that it's adequate to energize the start circuit. There might be bad contacts in the timer as well. Good luck.
