So is it too late to get into rally racing with possible career ambitions?
so i've seen a lot of these questions on here..
i'm 17 and recently just fallen in love with rally car racing after watching some WRC. i love everything about it and want to get involved in it someway. obviously i'd start it out as a hobby but id do anything to turn it into a career (financially, move around to europe maybe, all that) even though i think it may be already too late for that.i play sports so i know i can commit and work to something. i live in new jersey so theres not much rally going on here.
how should i start out besides rally cross? what are some good ways to get this whole rally deal off the ground as a hobby and/or a career?
oh and i forgot to ask this, what would also be some helpful characteristics and abilities to get into it besides dedication?
Guess who's in the exact same boat as you...This guy. Good news! It is never too late. I'm busy modifying my VW Golf for rally and in a couple days I'll be at Bondurant Racing School. I would really recommend racing school just to be sure you've got the skills, and further down the road, you will (a) need a license, and (b) want to impress racing teams with your credentials. Also, nobody just waltzes into the WRC, go to the NASA website. (different from space N.A.S.A.) They have a lot of information on getting started in the world of rallying and how to begin your career. For most NASA or SCCA Rally events, all you need is a standard driver's license, and it may lead you straight into higher leagues such as Rally America or eventually the WRC. Also, consider other options. Maybe you would make a better road racer, maybe a stock car racer. Anyways, no matter where your driving takes you I wish you good luck. Maybe I'll see you there.
