Why is my pneumatic air cannon getting very little distance?
I built a pneumatic gun using PVC and a 24 volt sprinkler valve. For some odd reason, after I fill the chamber with compressed air up to about 40 PSI, I only get about 10 feet of distance. I'm using a pocket nerf vortex which has a nearly perfect 2 inch diameter so It gets a nice seal when it is in the barrel. What I find bizarre is that I've built this before a few years back but I was getting MUCH better results. I could easily clear 100 yards on about 45 PSI.
From what I understand, temperature should not affect the decompression at all. I am basing that assumption with using an HPA system for paintball rather than CO2. The first time I built this, it was about 75 degress out. Currently, its closer to 50 degrees. Could temperature and weather be the cause of severe lack of performance? Anything that I might have done wrong? Any suggestions to improve?
This is the guide that I used to build mine. Pretty much the exact same replica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZJyoRJlG-4
2 things you should up the presure to 60 and the valve might be to fast, meaning it open and shots to fast I used to make nerf guns with a simalar setup and found that 24 volts were often to fast to close
